DEPRESSION

Depression is typically characterised by persistent feelings of sadness that last for weeks or months. Symptoms can vary quite drastically from person to person, but generally, if you are depressed, you feel sad, hopeless and lose interest in the things you used to enjoy. Symptoms will often interfere with your work, home and social life.


How depression affects your thoughts


  • Sadness or low mood

  • Thinking negatively about yourself or situations

  • Feeling hopeless or helpless

  • Low self-esteem

  • Feeling emotional or crying

  • Feeling guilty

  • Irritable or unable to tolerate other people

  • No motivation or interest in things

  • Your mind feels foggy or unable to process information or situations

  • Sluggish feeling - moving or speaking slowly

  • Loss of libido

  • Disturbed sleep - unable to get to sleep, too much sleep, or waking in the early hours
