ISSUES TREATED
OVERTHINKING AND OVER-ANALYSING
Referred to as cognitive distortions, this type of thinking can be paralysing. Fixating on certain thoughts, situations, and scenarios can lead to significant emotional and psychological strain.
Overthinking affects our mental health in the following ways:
Increased anxiety
Often anticipatory anxiety caused by thinking about what might go wrong or potential negative outcomes
Depression
Due to being caught in negative thought loops. This leads to rumination on past events, often feeling regret, guilt, or helplessness
Decision paralysis
Becoming paralysed by uncertainty
Sleep problems
Overthinking, especially in the evenings, can interfere with sleep. That constant mental chatter, often revolving around worries or unresolved thoughts, can make it difficult to relax and fall asleep
Physical symptoms
The body responds to mental stress as though it is a physical danger, causing a series of stress responses that affect both the mind and body. These can include tension in the neck and shoulders, headaches, and digestive issues
Decreased self-esteem and confidence
In spending time questioning your thoughts or actions, it is common to lose confidence in your decisions, abilities and even your identity
